Chicago – A chiropractor from Chicago was on 26th April 2021 sentenced to one year and six months in federal prison for deceitfully submitting payment claims to private insurance firms and the Medicare program for fictional treatment.
John Kosloski ran Diagnostic & Therapeutic Rehab located in Dolton, Ill. Between 2010 and 2017, John Kosloski charged the private insurance firms for services that he allegedly gave to Amtrak workers and their kins, with the knowledge that he did not actively treat them or did not see them as patients. John Kosloski reimbursed cash to the Amtrak workers in return for the ability to deceitfully bill using the workers’ and their kin’s personal information. During his scheme’s duration, John Kosloski submitted over 18,000 claims to health insurers for services he did not give, and he obtained over 500,000 U.S. dollars in payments for the fraudulent claims.
John Kosloski, age 57, from Beecher, Ill., admitted guilty last year to one health care fraud count. Rebecca R. Pallmeyer, U.S. District Chief Judge, on 26th April 2021, imposed an imprisonment term of one year and six months to John Kosloski and further directed Kosloski to reimburse a 25,000 U.S. dollar fine and over 500,000 U.S. dollars in restitution to the health insurers.
Illinois’ Northern District United States Attorney John R. Lausch, Jr. announced this sentence, together with the Chicago FBI Field Office Special Agent-in-Charge Emmerson Buie, Jr. and the Central Region of Amtrak – Office of Inspector General Special Agent-in-Charge Basil P. Demczak.
“In a world that has inadequate funds to recompense for health care, insurance firms reimbursed the accused person for false claims that could have been utilized to reimburse for medically necessary services,” argued the United States Assistant Attorney Kelly M. Greening in the United States’ sentencing memorandum. “Kosloski made a choice to steal insurers repeatedly for 8 years, defrauding hundreds of thousands of U.S. dollars.”
